No iPod Required: Listen to Podcasts without an MP3 Player
People often ask me about what they need to play mp3 files. If they have a laptop, do they need an Ipod? My answer is simple: no Ipod required. Ipod is not the most important device for playing mp3 files. MP3 files can be played on any laptop or desktop PC as long as you have a music player that can play them.
Finding ways of playing mp3 files will also make it easy for you to learn how to play all kinds of files. The process is similar. For any file format, you have to find the right programs that play that type of file.
Here’s what you have to know about playing mp3 file:
#1: Windows Media Player is the default music player on the Windows operating systems.
On Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP the default program for playing audio and video files is Windows Media Player. It’s a good program and it does its job. It’s installed by default which means that you don’t have to install by yourself because it’s already installed. You simply click two times on the file and the Windows Media Player will open it.
#2: VLC media player is the best open source option for playing media files.
I personally fancy this piece of software. I use it to play all my videos and audio files. It plays literally any popular format of video or audio files.
#3: Most people I know use Winamp to play their mp3 files.
Winamp is another good music player. I personally don’t like it that much but other people seem to love it. They love its powerful ability to create and share lists of audio files. They also love its simplicity. It’s quite easy to do most tasks on it. Plus, it comes with hundreds of cool skins that make Winamp look amazingly different from the original version. So Winamp is another no Ipod required solution.
#4: The MP3 file format is the most common file format for audio files.
A MP3 file is like a compressed archive. Certain people took a music CD, ripped the CD and the result was a high quality format that occupied a lot of space on the computer. Then they used another program to convert the high quality file into a lower quality file that occupies less space. The outputted file is a MP3 file with a size that can be even 10 times smaller. There’s a quality loss but most people don’t notice it.
#5: You can also copy your mp3 files on portable devices like a mp3 player, smartphone or tablet.
Once you have your MP3 files, you can also copy them on any portable device that can play mp3 files. Nowadays, even a smartphone can play this file format because it’s so common. It’s so common that all respectable companies found ways to play it on their device or to convert the MP3 files into a compatible format.
#6: No Ipod required: smartphones are a much better choice.
A smartphone like an Iphone does everything an Ipod does plus it also lets you talk on the phone. I personally prefer a smartphone as a mp3 player. I don’t think that anyone needs two devices of similar sizes in different pockets. One device is much better because it centralizes all the digital data in one place.
People probably continue to own both an Ipod and an Iphone because the battery of an Ipod lasts longer and in the beginning an Iphone did not support multitasking. Now it does and this makes it the perfect choice for playing mp3 files. Nowadays you can write a message and listen to music at the same time.
I encourage you to find other options for playing MP3 files. An Ipod is not the only option and it’s not even the best option. If you are at home, it’s better to play your MP3 files on your laptop or desktop PC. If you are outdoors, it’s better to play them on your Iphone or smartphone. Go right now and play your MP3 files on your laptop, desktop or smartphone.
